OUR TAKE

An in-house hand-wound movement from a proper German manufacture, in a 36mm case, for under a grand on the secondary market. That’s the pitch, and it holds up. The Nomos Alpha calibre inside is designed and built in Glashütte — not sourced, not modified, built from scratch. At this end of the market, almost nothing else can say that. The dial does a lot with very little: cream surface, dark numerals, red accents on the hands and minute track, guilloche small seconds at 6. It reads clearly and looks better in person than in photos. At 36mm it’s compact but the lugs are long at ~47mm, so it wears closer to a 38 on the wrist. 8.2mm thin, polished all round, 100m water resistance — proper everyday specs. This is the original 701, discontinued around 2017 and later brought back as a redesigned 701.1 in 2023. The originals don’t come up that often anymore.

∙ Strap: Dark charcoal Nomos OEM velour with grey stitching and Nomos-branded steel buckle. Good condition, minimal wear. This is not the original Horween Shell Cordovan strap (brown with red stitching) that shipped with the 701 — it’s a genuine Nomos replacement.
