Plant Description:

Myrciaria sp. "Cabeludinha Preta" is a rare and attractive species native to Bahia, Brazil. This small tree or large shrub typically grows to about 2 meters in height, making it ideal for compact gardens, container growing, or inclusion in diverse tropical fruit collections.

The plant is best known for its striking fruit—decently sized, round, and covered in fine hairs, giving them a fuzzy texture reminiscent of the more well-known Cabeluda (Myrciaria glazioviana). However, unlike its yellow counterpart, the fruits of "Cabeludinha Preta" ripen to a deep black or dark purple color. They are very sweet, with a pleasant, juicy pulp that makes them enjoyable to eat fresh and potentially useful for jams, juices, and other culinary applications.

This species thrives in warm, humid climates and prefers well-drained soil and full to partial sun exposure. Due to its tropical origins, it is best suited for USDA hardiness zones 10–11. With proper care and protection from cold, it may also adapt to the warmer parts of zone 9b.
