"Butch O'Hare" refers to Edward Henry "Butch" O'Hare, a celebrated U.S. Navy aviator and World War II hero. Edward Henry O'Hare was born on March 13, 1914, in St. Louis, Missouri. His father, Edward J. O'Hare, had ties to Al Capone but later testified against him in a tax evasion case, which may have helped secure Butch's entry into the U.S. Naval Academy; he graduated in 1937. On February 20, 1942, Lieutenant O'Hare single-handedly intercepted nine Japanese G4M Betty bombers approaching the USS Lexington, downing several with limited ammunition from his F4F Wildcat. This made him the U.S. Navy's first ace of WWII and earned him the Medal of Honor, presented by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
