With organs warbling and guitar rhythms rolling, flutes floating alongside a strong performance from the brass section, Zeitgeist are nothing if not musically impressive. A six-piece that should appeal to fans of King Crimson, on Summer's Day we're taken into the guts and belly of a jam session in which freeform arrangements rule the roost. Tracks that ebb and flow, descend and ascend, it's a ride through late-1960s psychedelia that also owed plenty to jazz and funk sensibilities. Tight as you could hope for, nevertheless the overall feeling is one of loose collaboration and exploration of ideas. These are fully formed tracks, make no mistake, but there's a consistent sense of diving into the unknown when the first bars of each begin - as though anything could and should happen.
