Genuine 1967 Swedish Army Bergan. This was made by Haglofs which is one of Swedens top outdoor brands. This Bergan was owned by my friends father when he served in the army. He is Sami and lives in the far northern parts of Sweden and from where I purchased it from him.
It is unique in that it has all the year marks, three Swedish crowns to show it is government issued. Also the Haglofs stamp in the back support strap. This also comes with the Thors hammer closure unique to these genuine rucksacks.
All pockets and the main compartment come with tie-close snow spindrift collars and can easily hold a 1litre water bottle. The main compartment is easily 50 litre plus. Maybe up to 70litres when using the extended spindrift collar.
Features:
100% pure cotton canvas material, Buckle down main compartment with drawstring, Top flap has a zip pocket on its underside 2x large exterior pockets Leather straps throughout Metal frame, Straps for sleeping bag/ bedroll 50 litres capacity Dimensions: 18 x 6 x 18". Adjustable shoulder straps. Item weighs approx 2.8 kg
Condition: This has a few stains and marks but no cuts. The leather straps have been waxed using Swedish leather compound from Lundhags. The base is in excellent condition. The main shoulder straps come with padded pads and with a heavy load work amazingly to keep the bergan comfortable on the shoulders. I’ve used this on 12 miles hikes around the Peak District and it was so comfortable. For me, it also aided in back posture because it’s so well balanced on your back and shoulders. There is no waist belt of course. The reason was so it didn’t get in the way of other military belt equipment or ammunition pouches. All versions of the original Norwegian Army Telemark Bergan were built the same and for the same reason. It also aided when skiing so not to get in the way of the arm movements when using ski poles.
A Bergan that is as tough as old boots like the soldiers of the past who wore them.
