When Nirvana were starting out in the small rainy logging town of Aberdeen in Washington state - just north of the city of Seattle that became grunge boom town - Kurt Cobain placed great importance on being great live and they would consistently rehearse three times a week. They were incredibly true to themselves as a band with punk roots so were not interested in taking any shortcuts or pulling the wool over anyone's eyes: what you got on record was what you got on stage at a minimum. Often it'd go into even greater frenzy with Cobain famous for smashing up the equipment and making it a white knuckle ride for the audience. In terms of a dream setlist, this live compilation hits the nail on the head - there's the more punk-driven stuff such as 'Love Buzz', originally released in 1987, alongside more dynamic tempo shifting numbers such as 'Heart Shaped Box'. Nirvana remain one of the greatest ever bands and this is a terrific reminder of why few will ever challenge that assertion.
