This is a large-format antique edition of the highly regarded "The Self-Interpreting Bible". A staple in many 19th-century households, this work is celebrated for its extensive marginal references, explanatory notes, and evangelical reflections designed to make the Holy Scriptures accessible to all readers. This particular edition, published by Blackie and Son, features the Authorized Version of the Old and New Testaments and is typically embellished with black and white steel-engraved illustrations and maps. 

over 8,000 additional notes which provide further scholarly depth beyond Brown's original 18th-century observations. 

The Bible is in good overall condition considering its age, primarily showing normal wear and tear and one structural defect.

• Binding: The book is bound in the original leather, which features intricate gold gilt and embossed detailing on the spine and covers. The most notable condition point is that the back cover is detached from the leather binding but is still connected by the original internal tape put on during printing, which should be handled with care. The spine itself shows wear, rubbing, and some chipping at the tail (bottom).
• Interior: The text block is sound, and the pages are in good order. There is light, scattered foxing (age-related spotting) present,  which is typical for books of this vintage. The main text and illustrations remain clear and readable.
• General Wear: Expect minor scuffing to the covers, rubbing to the board corners, and general signs of aging commensurate with a cherished family bible of this period. The general condition is normal for an item of this age. 

This impressive volume would make a substantial addition to any collection of historical religious texts or Victorian-era publishing.

Given the venerable age and considerable scale of this Bible, I approach its handling with the utmost caution. To ensure the preservation of the binding, I utilize a raised support for the covers to mitigate stress on the spine during use. I highly recommend adopting similar archival practices for any significant historical volumes to prevent structural deterioration.
