An antique brass drop bail handle with large backplate, likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century (c.1890–1920).

These substantial handles were commonly used on steamer trunks, campaign chests, and travel furniture, where heavy brass hardware was required to withstand frequent movement. The oversized backplates distribute weight across the wood surface, preventing damage when lifting heavy trunks or chests.

This handle features a hinged locking mechanism with a metal retaining pin, allowing the bail to fold flat and lock in place when not in use. This practical design helped prevent the handle from catching during transport and was often used on high-quality trunk hardware of the era.

Dimensions:

•  4  5/8"W x 4"L

•  Handle weighs 9.2 oz.

•  1" bolts soldered to the back

The warm aged brass patina and solid construction make these pieces ideal for:

• restoring antique trunks

• campaign-style furniture projects

• blanket chests or coffee table trunks

• vintage-inspired cabinetry

Authentic antique hardware with beautiful aged character.
