Antique Early 18th Century George I era Characterful, hand carved Oak tabernacle box in generally good condition but in need of restoration as the hinges to the door are missing, featuring traditional carved floral scenes to the side walls the door to the box is relief carved and tooled with a stylised pair of opposite facing birds, possibly swans or eagles finished to the top with a crown motif, lock fitting is in place, likely a later addition as with the back board to the box which is pierced with a hole at the top so as to enable the box to be a wall mounting affair, likely within a cloister or similar.
There are no signs of worm or rot, just age related wear, a piece that will restore nicely with a little effort making for a fabulous and very much useable period piece.
The box measures 23 cm x 17 c mx 14.5 cm in dimension.
