Three historical banknotes from the times of the Russian Empire and the Provisional Government: - 25 Rubles 1909 This large banknote was issued under the last Russian Tsar, Nicholas II, although it depicts his father, Emperor Alexander III. - Kerenki (20 and 40 rubles) These two small banknotes are the so-called "kerenki," issued by the Provisional Government in 1917. They were named after Alexander Kerensky, Chairman of the Provisional Government. They were issued not as individual banknotes, but in large sheets, which people often cut by hand.
