Antique Japanese Wooden Inlay Box OGURA HYAKUNIN ISSHU KARUTA CARD SET Game

This Antique Set of Karuta Cards is displayed in a beautiful Wooden Inlay Box featuring a traditional Japanese scene of Mount Fuji and a farm. Karuta is an old traditional Japanese card game of competitive poetry and matching. The Ogura Hyakunin Isshu Karuta Set consists of 196 cardboard cards featuring Japanese calligraphy and hand-painted images. All cards are in very good condition with most having minimal marks. They stack neatly on hand-carved small stands within the wooden box. The box is made from Keyaki wood and includes original brass handle. Circa 1910s. In very good condition. Box measures 16cm tall x 12cm wide x 9.5cm deep. Please click on the photos for further description.
