Tropical landscape painting, in the Haitian folk art style, featuring a sunset over a river with a small boat. The style is not unlike the paintings produced by The Highwaymen landscape artists (Florida Highwaymen) from 1950 to 1980. Tropical river scene with palm trees, a dugout canoe (pirogue), and a fiery orange sunset. Expressionist or Folk Art style. Appears to be oil on repurposed canvas - it looks to have been painted on a piece of canvas that reads, Silver Mill Prodex Kinshasa - perhaps from a canvas sack of a product produced from that company,

possibly from El Congo in Africa. Signed by artist and dated '72 in the lower left corner. There is damage to the paint layer, which is peeling and flaking away from the surface in two areas (approx. 6 in.² each), caused by the passage of time and perhaps dry environments; also a small bit of touchup (less than 2 in.²). Framed in a gold tone wood frame resembling bamboo which gives it a tiki style or tiki bar look. 30 x 20.5 x 1.5 inches. Vintage.
