Collection of handcrafted items from the central region of the Democratic Republic of Congo dating from the 1950s to early 1970s. Bantu, Oteleta, Batetela and Tetela peoples. Excellent provenance and family trail of ownership.

These objects were made for personal use by tribe members or made expressly for my relative who was a teacher andl linguist in the tribal regions at the time. They include: a woven and mixed material baby rattle with handle; small woven and mixed material figurine/doll in ceremonial costume; circular carved wood wall hanging depicting a woman with a baby carrying a basket on her head; large woven basket with lid; 2 small baskets (1 woven with lid, 1 coiled with lid missing); small carved wood bird; 2 bracelets (1 beaded on dyed leather, 1 dyed leather with cowrie shell accent). Small woven basket has minor wear to lid.
