Dr. Leo Catozzo received a Technical Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1991 for the development of the self-perforating tape splicing system. This technology revolutionized film editing and preservation by providing clean, reliable splices without removing frames or using cement. The Catozzo method remains the preferred splicing technique for film archives and restoration professionals.
This splicer is in very good used condition. The working mechanism is clean and fully functional — splicing blade, registration pins, tape cutter, and film viewer all operate properly. The hammertone paint finish on the top and sides is in excellent shape with no significant chips or wear. Springs and lever action are firm and responsive.
The bottom of the base plate shows cosmetic wear from bench use — surface scuffs and light scratches typical of a professional tool that has seen real work. The manufacturer's label on the bottom (C.I.R. srl, Made in Italy) is partially worn but legible. All rubber feet are present and intact.
Overall: a well-maintained professional tool, fully ready for use.
