An early entrant in Thorpe & Porters DOUBLE DOUBLE outing.

MISSING PAGES WARNING.  Originally this issue included Hawkman 15 from 1966.  All that remains are 4 pages including the Splash.

In the 60’s all comics at first distribution were offered to UK newsagents on a sale or return basis.  Once past their sell by date they were returned to the wholesaler Thorpe and Porter and some were decovered and rebound with existing staples still in place in sets of four with a generic title usually drawn from the DC catalogue, in this case Superman Double Double Comics.  No consideration was given to continuity or, for that matter, brand discretion, Just to make it more interesting for collectors! the same issue number could have different content. Front and back covers were identical and plain white inside.  Internally the comics were exactly as at first distribution staples, stories, letters, adverts, splash page ownership declaration and statements of ownership all as you’d expect just no covers. The cover art work here is a partial lift of Superman 184 and has no bearing to the title’s contents. I think the cover was put together in the UK without authorisation from DC who I assume would have been a bit cross!!  Does that make it more collectable?

Covers Significant spine roll.  Back cover has a cup size circle with significant tears. otherwise comic has moderate corner, spine and edge wear with colour dimmed by its 60 years.    Inside covers are white and fairly reasonably clean.  Covers have faired quiet well really.

Inside. Four pages are loose at the bottom staple with all other pages in place and bound securely to the spine with some staple stress.  All original staples are in place. All pages are off white with minor margin tanning.

A nice readable 60 year old oddity.

I try to create short sets - usually with 6 or less related issues – to provide the reader with a complete or near complete story arc or theme.  This provides a better reading experience and can also encourage a jump in point for new companies, characters or titles.

I aim for honest grading and will always describe any shortcomings including the presence of price stickers.

All are packed securely.

I identify “my favourites” as such.  This doesn’t necessarily mean that they are better than my other listings - although I guess I would argue that they are!! You judge.

I will always combine postage costs for multiple purchases.
