Архиепископ Иоанн (в миру князь Дмитрий Алексеевич Шаховской) (1902-1989) – епископ Православной церкви в Америке, архиепископ Сан-Францисский и Западно-Американский. Проповедник, писатель, поэт. Эмигрировал в Константинополь, потом во Францию. Публиковал стихи под псевдонимом «Странник».

В сборник вошли диалоги с мирянами про священство, эссе "Мысль о самоубийстве", "Чин рая", "Апокалипсис мелкого греха" и другие.
