In ancient Mesopotamian mythology, the Bull of Heaven is a divine beast sent by the goddess Ishtar and ultimately slain by the hero Gilgamesh. This scene appears in both early Sumerian poems and the later Akkadian version of the Epic of Gilgamesh, one of the oldest surviving works of world literature.
