Rossi R 15 RV ABC TR Combat 2.5cc 2-Stroke Model Airplane Engine Vintage!

One hot Rossi from Italy!

The legendary 1970's speed motor from the Rossi brothers (a trend setter, copied by so many).  Its a high-quality 2-stroke featuring a robust 1-piece sand-cast crankcase, rear induction rear exhaust configuration (for enclosed aerodynamic fitting in a speed plane), Schnuerle ported ABC (Aluminium piston in Brass sleeve with hard Chrome plating) piston sleeve assembly with 3 inlet ports (normal timing for Team Race & combat), crankshaft running in dual high speed ball race bearings, cylinder head with Nelson type glow plug fitting & venturi with NVA .

Peter Chinn summed up the R15 in Model Airplane News: "If one were asked to name the world's most outstanding model aircraft motor in terms of sheer performance, it would have to be the R15."  Peter had refereed to the previous version in Aero Modeller as "one of the all time greats". Peter recorded 0.72bhp at 26,000rpm (normal version on FAI fuel).  With the ABC PSA set, this R15 can be tuned further for power outputs of over 1 bhp.  This R15 can be run on FAI fuel (20% castor oil & 80% methanol) or up to 70% nitro can be added (where permitted).

Condition wise, this engine turns over very smoothly with new engine compression (tight pinch towards the top of the stroke).  The cylinder head is fitted with a Nelson type glow-plug (provides more power than a standard glow plug).  The patina & burnish reflects its age.  Please see photos.  Sorry no original box & instructions.  The engine is mounted on the display stand with fibre washers & this stand is included for free for the winning bidder.
