Dug out in Kurland
Relic was dug out in a rubbish pit on side of an airstrip. Good condition, will be great add to any Luftwaffe collection or display. Great conversation starter and useful item, I'm using one myself. Found on airfield of JG 54 near Riga. Usable condition. Scroll down to see better photos.
During the German occupation of Latvia from 1941 to 1944, Spilve Airfield served the Luftwaffe primarily as a secondary operational, logistics, and dispersal airfield rather than a permanent main base. Transport units such as elements of Transportgeschwader 1 operated Junkers Ju 52/3m aircraft from Spilve to support supply and personnel movements, while reconnaissance detachments flew aircraft including the Focke-Wulf Fw 189 and Henschel Hs 126 on tactical observation missions across the Baltic region. The airfield was also used intermittently by bomber and fighter units operating Junkers Ju 88 and Messerschmitt Bf 109 aircraft, and historical sources further indicate that elements of Jagdgeschwader 54 operated from or used Riga–Spilve during 1944, flying Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighters as the Eastern Front collapsed and German forces increasingly relied on forward and dispersal airfields around Riga.
