All three tubes have been individually tested; one example measures noticeably stronger than the remaining two, and the full test data for each tube is visible in the last pictures of the gallery. The EL33 is a Mullard-developed output pentode introduced in 1938, widely used across European receivers and amplifiers of the late 1930s through 1950s, and increasingly sought after by vintage audio restorers for its distinctive sonic character. The EL33 is an output pentode developed by Mullard in 1938, mounted on the International Octal base with a 6.3V indirectly heated cathode drawing 0.9A - note that this heater current is double that of the visually similar 6V6, and the two types should never be directly substituted without circuit changes. The EL33 was specified with a cathode resistor of 150 ohms, a transconductance of approximately 9.5mA/V, and a maximum anode dissipation of 9W, giving it a characteristically high-gm, lower-dissipation operating envelope compared to beam tetrode alternatives of the era. Examples produced by both Mullard and Tungsram are considered among the more reliable surviving representatives of this type, with consistent construction and predictable performance characteristics valued by restorers of period European equipment.
