Description

This is a beautiful Japanese lacquered Natsume used for holding matcha green tea powder. It is a reproduction (写し) of a design favored by Gengensai (玄々斎), the 11th Grand Master of the Urasenke tea tradition. The style is called "Akebono" (Dawn), characterized by the striking red lacquer base with elegant black motifs of a crane and pines

It comes with its original wooden box. The front of the lid reads: 玄々斎好 曙棗 (Gengensai Konomi, Akebono Natsume). The back of the lid has the maker's signature and seal. Note: The signature is stylized and difficult to read with certainty
