This is the yellow version of the Mamiya AE Prism Finder FE401. In the late 2000s, Mamiya announced a Japan-only made-to-order release of a special Color Version based on the 645 PRO TL, planned in nine colors to commemorate the long history of the 6×4.5 series:
Pearl White, Wine Red, Brilliant Silver, Green, Yellow, Pale Blue, Racing Green, Metropolitan Blue, and Red. However, because the project overlapped with the Lehman Shock, almost no orders were placed by buyers, and only a very small number of units were produced.There is an online rumor that 15 units of the Wine Red version were made, but this is not accurate, and it seems that the other colors were hardly produced at all. Since it was limited to Japan, very few examples can be found. As far as I know, I have seen photos of Pearl White, Wine Red, Yellow, and Red, but I have heard of the other colors only as rumors. It is also said that, because these were sold only as made-to-order sets, individual parts were not sold separately. However, this one appears to have been produced as a test unit or display unit. For that reason, an original color-matched box was not made, and it is placed in a standard black FE401 box. Therefore, the serial number on the box and the serial number on the actual yellow unit are different. In the camera industry, it is common for special lots, prototypes, OEM items, or custom-made products to use different serial prefixes, and a yellow sticker was specially attached to the box so that it could be identified at a glance.
