TC21 is a high-strength near-α titanium alloy developed in China, with a nominal composition of Ti-Al-Sn-Zr-Mo-Cr-Nb. It offers a tensile strength exceeding 1100 MPa and retains stability at temperatures up to 500°C, making it suitable for high-stress, high-temperature applications. Its excellent specific strength, corrosion resistance (especially in oxidizing environments), and lightweight properties (density ~4.5 g/cm³) are key advantages.
TC21 is widely used in aerospace (e.g., engine components, airframe structures), defense (missile casings), and industrial sectors requiring durable, heat-resistant materials. However, its high cost and challenging processing (requiring precise heat treatment) limit broader adoption. Compared to TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V), TC21 provides superior strength and thermal resistance but lower weldability and ductility.
