An invention, patented in 1903 by the zither maker, JOHANNES PUGH, and was marketed as the Violinett.
This is a super rare Antique Musical Instrument. Made in Altona (Hamburg) Germany.
Unusual 100-year-old instrument made to be played by placing the instrument facing up on top of a table so that one can manipulate the fretted strings with the left hand to change pitch while bowing with the right hand to determine volume and length of pitch. Two notes or strings can be played simultaneously making chords possible.
Needs some work. Had one crack repair in it's life but is solid. See pics.
Missing; Rear string bridge, 2 feet, Strings. Nothing that cannot be replaced.
The bow appears to be original but has a badly chipped edge on the frog. (frogs are an inexpensive replacement). It's the bow that has the value.
Bow is 29" long. The only markings on the bow are XXI.
Case is in good condition except for the covering. Wood case. missing on hinge screw.
Length of the instrument is 22" Width is 8" and thickness is 3"
Length of case is 31" Width is 9" and thickness is 5"
