🔵 DESCRIPTION

This listing is for a matched pair of original 1813 hand-colored copperplate engravings titled “German Deer Shooting, Winter” and “German Deer Shooting, Summer.” Each print was engraved by Dubourg (Dubourg sculp.) after the original drawings by Munskirch (Munskirch del.), and published & sold January 1st, 1813 by Edward Orme, Bond Street, London, one of the most respected early 19th-century British print dealers.

These engravings have been visually authenticated using standard non-invasive print-identification methods:

Under magnification, the shading reveals stipple and aquatint grain, not photographic dots, confirming early 1800s copperplate technique.

The small printed inscriptions exhibit crisp, indented line structure, slight plate wear, and irregularities consistent with hand-engraved lettering — characteristics impossible for modern mechanical reproduction to replicate.

No halftone dot matrix, pixel pattern, or lithographic screen is present.

Paper shows natural age toning, foxing, and fiber texture typical of early 19th-century rag paper.

A faint plate impression is visible around the bordered image.

Coloring displays soft, uneven tonal transitions consistent with period hand-applied watercolor tinting.

Both engravings are housed in vintage wood frames with deep green mats and glass fronts. The frames show mild wear, small scratches, and stable older backing paper typical of mid-20th century presentation framing. Both artworks remain clean, well-preserved, and ready to hang.

These are ideal acquisitions for collectors of antique sporting prints, European hunting scenes, lodge or cabin décor, or anyone seeking authentic early 1800s art with documented provenance.
