A different side of Ikko Narahara—Tokyo and Yokohama seen through his finder, capturing “the city of my photographs.” This special double-sided edition features nearly 40 previously unpublished works from the Blue Yokohama series.

Around the time he released two of his most iconic series, Human Land (1956) and Domain (1958), Narahara was also photographing in a style he later described as “personal documents,” yet quite different from those major works. The photographs included in this book—Tokyo, the ’50s and Blue Yokohama—belong to that separate body of work.

These images were taken spontaneously on the streets of Tokyo and Yokohama. Rather than creating highly structured compositions, Narahara embraced chance encounters, capturing subjects as he came across them. The results are freer, more relaxed, and more dynamic snapshots of everyday life. This new publication brings together the 1996 Mole edition Tokyo, the ’50s with nearly 40 additional unpublished photographs from Blue Yokohama, presented in a special “double A-side” format.
