Compatibility

Deep dive: Seaboard, SCL & the Bicentennial craze
Seaboard Air Line (SAL) grew into a premier southeastern railroad linking Richmond, VA to Florida with branches across the Carolinas and Georgia—famous for streamlined passenger trains like the Silver Meteor and Silver Star and the slogan “Through the Heart of the South.”
In 1967, SAL merged with rival Atlantic Coast Line (ACL) to form Seaboard Coast Line (SCL), a powerhouse corridor from Virginia to Florida. SCL later evolved (through Seaboard System) into today’s CSX in the 1980s.
During the U.S. Bicentennial (1976), railroads all over the country rolled out patriotic red-white-blue locomotives. TYCO captured that excitement with its “Spirit of ’76”/1776 themed models for multiple road names—including Seaboard—some true to specific prototypes and some celebratory/fantasy schemes meant to look great on a home layout. Restoration & upgrade ideas
Windows: Replace with clear styrene or pre-cut glazing; a drop of canopy glue stays crystal clear.

Mounting clip fix: A tiny styrene tab epoxied inside the skirt can recreate the missing clip; or convert to screw posts with styrene tubing and 2-56 hardware.
Repaint/refresh: Simple soap-and-water wash, light polish, and selective touch-ups—or go full strip and repaint with Microscale “Spirit of ’76” style decals.
