The Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, located in Peru's Sacred Valley, was a strategic ceremonial, agricultural, and military center built by Inca emperor PachacĂștec. It is famous for its massive terraces, complex stonework, and its role as the site of a significant Inca victory against the Spanish in 1537 during the wars of conquest. The complex served multiple purposes, including defense and astronomical observation, and remains a testament to Inca ingenuity.
