Licinius was a Roman emperor from 308 to 324 CE who co-authored the Edict of Milan in 313 CE, which granted religious tolerance to Christians
. Originally a military officer, he became a co-emperor with Constantine the Great after the death of Galerius and later ruled the Eastern Roman Empire. His reign was ultimately marked by conflict with Constantine, who defeated him in 324 CE, leading to Licinius's execution the following year."
