An 87-gram slice of Howardite, an HED achondrite meteorite from asteroid Vesta, found in Northwest Africa (NWA). It has been cut and polished across its broad face, and its outline is a rough triangle with a natural, unpolished edge running all the way around.
The face is a deep brown that darkens toward charcoal, dotted with rounded and angular blackish inclusions, some pinpoint-small and some much larger, spread fairly evenly over the surface. Close in, thin pale veins and a few tiny pits show between them. One face is darker and smoother, with the spotting more subdued; the other shows the spots more clearly. From the side, the unpolished rim is coarse and granular, with rusty-brown tones running through the thickness of the slab.
Suited to a meteorite collection, a specimen case, or a teaching set.
