This unusual Swatow ware bowl, also known as Zhangzhou ware, is from the late Ming dynasty (16th-17th century). The term "Swatow" refers to a type of Chinese export porcelain produced in the kilns of Zhangzhou in southern Fujian province for a Southeast Asian market. These ceramics are known for their bold, spontaneous brushwork and somewhat coarser quality compared to the imperial porcelain from Jingdezhen.
