Trench art ashtray from WWII, made from spent Navy ordinance.  The ashtray is constructed from a 3in MK5 brass shell casing manufactured in 1943, a 40mm anti-aircraft brass shell casing, and three 30-06 shell casings.  This is a unique piece, as it incorporates three types of shells.  The 40mm casing fits perfectly between the 30-06 shells but its unclear what its purpose is for but it adds great character.  The 3in shell retains excellent markings showing the manufacturer, shell size, manufacturing date, and navy markings.  The 40mm retains a portion of its lot number, partial date "19" and navy anchor.

This is great chance to pick up a unique ashtray and three shell types all in one piece, from the United States Navy's greatest generation.
