Illustrated color frontispiece, accompanied with five additional gorgeous full-page plates attributed to noted American artist Bertha Lum (1869-1954), who would popularize the Japanese and Chinese woodblock prints, and techniques in North America.
A beautifully illustrated work authored by the first lady-in-waiting and interpreter to Empress Dowager Cixi of the late Qing dynasty.

A VERY GOOD book / no dj. Text block is compact and tight. Light soil, normal signs of handling/ shelf wear to edges/tips (see photos) previous owners small stamp of his name in a few spots in the book). NO other writing, remainders, inscriptions, underlining etc... decent looking book, just not quite crisp enough to grade higher. This is a very scarce book, here in a true 1st printing.
