This is the book for everybody who is interested in what lies on the floor of the oceans beneath the three or four miles of sea that covers two-thirds of the earth’s surface. The idea that Bruce Heezen and his co-authors (it appears that one had to pull out of the job after helping with the original concept-Professor R. J. Menzies) had was to show pictures of the deep sea-floor and to use these pictures as hooks on which to hang a most illuminating and instructuve series of enlarged captions. The result is what one might expect of the knowledge of Heezen and Hollister and the printing expertise of the Oxford University Press. It is a beautiful volume-but also most instructive.
