What it is:
You’re looking at a Neve 33609/J stereo compressor/limiter – one of the most revered outboard studio units ever made. This baby brings classic Neve tone, built to legendary specs, and used by top engineers for decades.
• Based on the Neve 2254 feedback-circuit roots.
• Part of the AMS Neve Classic line; the “J” version followed the “C” and then the J-/JD versions. The “J” is non-discrete but still delivers that rich, musical compression character.
• Hand-wired transformers, classic Neve build, quiet in signal path, warm and powerful output.
Condition:
Very good cosmetic and sonic condition with very few scratches. This unit has been lovingly cared for.
The only issue to note (and being upfront):
• The right channel sometimes gets a little dirty and knobs don’t always respond immediately. Likely just age-related grime or oxidation on pots/switches — totally fixable with cleaning and maintenance.
• Apart from that, it sounds absolutely beautiful. Clean dynamics, huge tonal depth, the kind of richness only a Neve can give.
Why it’s still a fantastic deal:
• Rarity: You don’t see many of these pop up in this condition. Many are beat up or have serious issues.
• Character: Even with the slight right channel quirk, it still delivers huge sonic value. Many engineers would pay premium for the sound alone.
