This handy kit is useful for the home mechanic wishing to remove and replace valve guides from a vintage Triumph, BSA, or Norton cylinder head. May also be suitable for use on other types of small engines.

The kit is comprised of a valve guide punch, threaded draw rod, valve seat mandrel, (2) different sized valve guide collars, and a sleeve nut. Neatly organized and protected in a vinyl case, this kit will provide years of service when used and maintained correctly.

The punch is used to knock the old guides out of the cylinder head. For installation, the mandrel is threaded onto the end of the draw rod so that it abuts to the valve seat to allow for a straight and concentric placement of the valve guide into the head. There are (2) different sized collars to fit over the valve guides. With the sleeve nut threaded onto the draw rod against the collar, the valve guide is drawn into the head as the nut is tightened.

It is advisable to lightly cut the valve seats after the new guides are fitted. This type of cylinder head work is technical and requires dexterity and skill. While the workshop manuals offer some instructions for these procedures, this kind of work may be best left to a professional mechanic to perform.
