This is a scarce antique pair of 19C period English Staffordshire pug bull terrier models with their toy Union Jack balls ready to play and seated in semi-recumbent pose atop cobalt bases with gilded trim. Beautiful and in excellent surviving condition with no post production breaks or cracks. This breed is not commonly found in this rarely seen model, with each figure holding a red and blue Union Jack ball between its feet and pale blue ribbon bow collars, and in a surviving right and left facing pair no less. Minimal expected age related wear with few expected original manufacturing anomalies, as would be characteristic with these types of antique figures.
