This Photochrome Postcard Shows Arcade and Attica Railroad No. 14 Leaving Arcade, New York, in Wyoming County
This photochrome postcard captures Arcade and Attica Railroad No. 14 as it departs Arcade, New York, a small town situated in Wyoming County. The 2-8-0 steam locomotive was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1917, carrying builder’s number 45083. It features 19 x 26-inch cylinders and 58-inch driving wheels. This historic engine was originally part of the Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad before being acquired by the Arcade and Attica Railroad in 1963. The locomotive is shown pulling a string of passenger coaches across a small trestle bridge, with classic vintage railcars trailing behind. During the 1960s, the train operated tourist excursions on weekends from May to November. The image was taken in 1966 by Wm. F. Herrmann of the National Railway Historical Society in Erie, Pennsylvania, and the card was distributed as part of E. K. Huggins’ Railroad Series from Steelton, Pennsylvania.
