This polychrome-enamled and relief-decorated 'Dragon and Phoenix' jar and cover from the 20th century is a beautiful piece of Chinese culture. The generously proportioned globular body set over a low foot, the exterior with dragons and phoenix pursuing flaming pearls amidst floral scrolls, each element outlined in relief and painted in polychrome enamels against a marigold-yellow ground, the rim with an apocryphal six-character Qianlong mark in a horizontal line, the domed cover similarly decorated and topped by a double-gourd finial.
