The AMC AMX served as the official pace car for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 29, 1969. A total of 12 AMXs were used as pace and courtesy cars during the event. These vehicles were equipped with the "390 Go-Pac" option and finished in "Frost White" with red stripes and red interiors. They were utilized by racers, including Bobby Unser, for practice runs up the mountain during the week leading up to the race .
