About Chobunsai Eishi

One of the ukiyo-e artists active during the Golden Age of ukiyo-e (late 18th century). He had an unusual background as a Hatamoto (samurai retainer), and painted graceful and elegant portraits of beautiful women, which made him as popular as Utamaro at the time. He studied under the Oku-eshi and Kano school, and painted a wide range of subjects in addition to portraits of beautiful women.
