An Assuit-style kaftan dress, handmade in Egypt, with a sheer open-mesh net ground stitched all over with eight-pointed stars in pink, lilac, orange, teal, blue and red, each star picked out with gold-colored stitches along its edges.
The front is anchored by a large diamond medallion just below the neckline: a stepped frame of colored triangles and gold-colored points enclosing a smaller star. A short slit at the neck is edged in gold-colored stitching that runs down into the medallion. Rows of stars continue down the front and back, with tiny gold-colored diamonds scattered in between, and because the net is so sheer the stars on the back show softly through the front. Long open slits run up each side from the hem.
Easy to layer for a casual day, and festive enough to wear to a wedding.
