- HAND-MADE in Poland: Leather strop for knife sharpening made from the highest quality 3mm (1/8") vegetable leather, bark-tanned in the Podhale region following the 17th-century recipe. Hardwood paddle-shaped handle made from Beechwood (Fagus sylvatica) located in Carpathian mountains forests. We use only 100% wood from a well-managed forest, as confirmed by the FSC certificate. Both are handcrafted into premium sharpening strop to keep any knife or straight razor scary sharp.
- LARGE AND COMFORTABLE: The big size of the strop and large working surface of the stropping leather provides flexibility when polishing the blade. The length is 320mm (12.6") & width is 60mm (2.36") in total. Working area length is 206mm (8.11") x width is 56mm (2.17"). The double-sided paddle strop has smooth and rough leather to choose from according to your preferences.
- VERSATILE AND EASY TO USE: Apply chosen polishing compound on one or both sides of leather strop. Most customers use white compounds on the rough side while green compounds on the smooth side. You might prefer coarser or finer grit. You can also leave the smooth side free of the compound for ultra-fine touch-ups. Always strop after sharpening your finest stone by pulling the blade backwards with low pressure. It is important to keep the same (or a little bit shallower) angle you sharpen at.
- WIDE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS: This premium leather sharpening strop can be used for honing/buffing straight razors, chisels, hunting knives, pocket knives, kitchen (chefs) knives, and many other tools that need the sharpest edge possible.
- SPECIAL HONING COMPOUNDS: Softening balm and 4 grits of special Bacher polishing compound are included. Soft and easy to apply, designed to be used especially on leather honing belts and strops. The balm softens and conditions the leather. Thanks to lanoline and beeswax additions. 7g (1/4 oz) each. Approximately grain: Red 2000 (medium), White 5000 (fine), Green 8000 (very-fine), Black 12000 (ultra-fine).
Product Description
Precise polishing and maximum sharpness for your knives!
The leather strop for knife sharpening is an accessory that allows you to precisely polish your blade after sharpening. The handmade belt is made of 3mm thick vegetable tanned cowhide and is mounted on a hard and durable beech wood base. We use only 100% wood from well-managed forests, as certified by the FSC certificate awarded in 2021 by Preferred by Nature (FSC license code: FSC-C170599). The leather strop, together with a set of four polishing pastes and a beeswax balm, forms a practical set dedicated to the final stage of the sharpening process.
The paddle strop allows for precise polishing of the edge and maximum razor sharpness. The polishing compound enhances the polishing effect, giving the blade a mirror-like smoothness and high gloss, preventing discoloration and rust. By polishing the blade, we remove any scratches and burrs caused by sharpening.
How to use Bacher premium leather sharpening strop?
Apply polishing compound
Apply the chosen compound to one or both sides of the leather. White compound is most commonly used on the rough side and green compound on the smooth side, but the choice depends on your personal preference. You can also use the smooth side without honing the compound.
Polish one side of the blade
Make a few movements by moving the blade, as shown in the picture below, maintaining the correct angle of inclination.
Change the sides of the blade
Repeat the same steps on the other side of the blade.
Tips:
To soften the consistency of the compound, you can place it in hot water containers. When the paste reaches a temperature of 50°C, it is very easy to apply. You can also use a hair dryer.
Tips:
For optimal polishing, a very small amount of sharpening paste is needed. Apply about 1g per side and let the leather do its work.
Tips:
If you feel that the strop is not working well, you can apply a little paste. This is usually needed every 30-50 uses. You can completely replace the paste on a leather strop by sanding it down to the leather itself. Usually needed every 300-500 uses.
Tips:
You'll find more tips in our ebook, which contains practical advice for users of leather strops for polishing knives. To download the ebook, scan the QR code on the leaflet included in the kit. The ebook is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Polish.
What Bacher premium leather strop includes?
The set includes a double-sided stropping leather on a beech wood board from a well-managed forest (FSC certified) with a handle and hanging possibility. It comes with a set of four different graded polishing compounds and a leather stropping balm. The compounds are specially designed for use on leather strops. They are soft and easy to use. The lanolin and beeswax contained in the compound soften and condition the surface of the leather, allowing you to achieve an excellent polish on the blade.
The leather paddle has a smooth side and a rough side so you can adjust it to your preference. Polishing compounds can be applied to one or both sides of the leather. The most common application is white compound on the rough side of the leather and green compound on the smooth side. However, the choice depends on individual preference. It is best to try different options to see which one suits your needs.
The sturdy handle provides comfort while working. The strop is universal and very easy to use. It can be used to polish razors and all types of kitchen, hunting and pocket knives, chisels and any other tool that requires a sharp edge.
