This is such a cool piece! It is a handblown glass container with a cork lid. There are very cool multi-color ripples throughout the jar that give it an awesome look. Almost looks like snake skin to me. 

Perfect for all of your small things and trinkets. Would even be a perfect salt or spice container. So many possibilities.
