When you need your hands to perform but still want to control your light show, the Chauvet DJ Foot-C 2 is the compact DMX controller you need. This incredibly cool (and affordable) footswitch-based DMX controller gives you access to 36 channels of control. Onboard color mixing for up to six channels is easy, thanks to a set of dedicated knobs, and three LCD panels provide critical feedback for every available process. Simple controls let you program up to 24 scenes, which you can quickly recall via the footswitches. With additional control options including audio triggering and MIDI, the Foot-C 2 is an incredible 36-channel DMX controller, even without considering that you can operate it with your feet.
While you'll have no trouble controlling all kinds of DMX-equipped lighting fixtures from the Foot-C 2, it's clear that Chauvet built it with hex-color LED fixtures in mind. The most obvious sign of this is its set of six color mixing knobs, which are labeled Red, Green, Blue, Amber, White, and UV. Of course, you can use these same controls for other DMX assignments as well. A total of 36 channels also perfectly accommodates six hex-color fixtures (or other fixtures with 6-channel DMX control options), and there are six fixture-selection buttons to make jumping between your lights easy.
One of the aspects of the Foot-C 2 that stood out the most to the lighting techs here at Sweetwater was how easy it was to program. First, the controls are simple but exactly as extensive as they need to be. The pedals allow you to quickly navigate through parameters, and dedicated controls provide direct access to fixture assignments and other functions. Likewise, the Foot-C 2's three LED-backlit displays ensure that you never get lost in submenus, not that the menu system is deep enough to get lost in. There are enough characters in the LCD readout that you don't have to navigate confusing shorthand either.
When it comes to the actual programming, Chauvet built the Foot-C 2 to be so straightforward that Sweetwater lighting techs never found a need to crack the manual. Programming static scenes is as easy as selecting the fixtures you want to use, dialing in the colors for each, and saving. To program a chase, you use more or less the same process, only repeated up to 24 times per scene. With 24 slots for scenes onboard, it's easy to program an entire perfectly respectable light show right onboard the Foot-C 2.
Basic scene recall couldn't be easier than it is on the Foot-C 2, but it's far from the extent of what this flexible DMX foot controller can do. When you set up chases, there's the basic auto mode, but you can also tap in the BPM to get your show to sync to the beat. Another great way to sync up your show is via audio triggering. Audio triggering lets you use either the internal microphone or an external audio input to pick up the tempo and sync to the beat of your music. Sensitivity control makes dialing in the response fast and accurate too. For even more advanced control, you can integrate your Foot-C 2 with a MIDI controller or sequencer. MIDI control provides you with on-the-fly speed and fade adjustments and blackout control, as well as chase and scene triggering.
