For
your consideration at this wonderful auction is a rare and vintage
Apple External SCSI Hard Drive with 9GB (gigabytes) of capacity.
Gigabytes are larger than megabytes. This rare drive will give your
vintage or legacy Macintosh an unprecedented and spacious upgrade. The
external 20SC enclosure (based on Apple model numbers M2603 and
M2604) was retrofitted with a faster and more quieter 9GB drive. These
beige enclosures are rare and highly collectible among Mac Classic
fans. A 50-pin to 25-pin SCSI cable and SCSI terminator will be included
complimentary with the drive purchased. You may use a standard power
cable - does not use an external power supply. Drive is formatted with
the Mac OS Standard specification allowing compatibility with 68040 and
PowerPC systems, not the Mac OS Extended format (limited to PowerPC
systems). Once mounted on the Macintosh Finder desktop, the drive has an
available 7 gigabytes (7GBs) of free space after formatting because
the operating system calculates the drive available space with an
indexing system. This drive was setup, configured and tested on a Power
Macintosh G3 desktop with Mac OS 9. This drive is supported with Mac OS
7.6.1 or later with 68040 systems (Mac OS 8.1 is suggested when using
68040 systems), and is expected to accommodate booting the computer with
a valid System Folder. Full drive capacity will not function on System
7.5.5 or 68030 processors, it is unsupported. The yellow/orange LED
glows solid when the power switch is switched from "off" to "on".
Although
multiple units are available for purchase at this auction, two or more
of these specific drives may not be configured together on the same SCSI
bus because of the unique SCSI ID address. This SCSI ID is set to 4 (four) or 5 (five). As a result, it is the buyer's responsibility to confirm
compatibility with the operating system and verify system details prior
to purchasing. Buyer or user assumes all risks, as any unusual
modifications or adjustments made to the device may cause undesirable
results. Additional reformatting or different drivers are unsupported.
Product is being offered as-is with no warranty. There are no returns
or refunds on this item. These drive enclosures are over 25 years old
and may have signs of wear and tear, including some scuffs, light or
thin cracks, interior rust, fading or yellowing caused to the aging
plastics. Some rubber feet may fall off or be absent.
