Familiar semi-hollowbody construction
The Premier SS combines vintage-inspired maple semi-hollowbody construction with a single-cut body shape. The single-cut shape offers the best of both worlds — improved upper-fret access on the treble side, while the bass side’s fuller figure promotes unimpeded sustain that supports melodic movement with low-string resonance. Inside, the Premier SS features a solid center block that keeps feedback at bay and makes it easy to push amp levels or use effects such as reverb, overdrive, and delay. Set-through maple neck construction heightens sustain and tonal quality, and this neck is capped with a walnut fingerboard. Walnut’s smoothness and natural hardwood feel leave guitarists feeling inspired, and players at Sweetwater find that a walnut fingerboard helps with accuracy and consistency, especially when tackling complex chords, such as sevenths or inversions.

The D’Angelico legacy
After mastering his craft during an 18-year apprenticeship, luthier John D’Angelico opened his own shop in Manhattan’s Little Italy in 1932. Catering to New York’s many jazz musicians over the ensuing three decades, D’Angelico and a single apprentice became New York’s foremost stringed instrument builders, creating over one thousand treasured archtop guitars until John’s death in 1964. After his passing, the D’Angelico legacy lived on only through his rare, legendary instruments. After decades, the D’Angelico brand has resurfaced, bringing back the playability and attention to detail of the company’s New York roots.
