For the particular buyer who wants something prominent in large Early American silver coins, we offer this 1834 Capped Bust half dollar of the Overton 111 variety with lettered edge "half a dollar or 50 cents" as was the case until reeded-edge half dollars started being minted a few years later.  This coin had old cleaning and now has the visible, dark gun-metal-grey contrasts between the fields and features on both sides.

Think of this half dollar when it was minted - as still Early American vintage.  As it was the largest non-gold denomination, rolls and bags of these half dollars would be stored in bank vaults to back currency and be transferred to balance large debts; individuals generally could not afford to carry these around (this time would come, but for the Barber half dollar era).  All this is an interesting insight into a bit of Early American history of our grand old Philadelphia Mint, Federal government and banking dynamics, and who might have stored and then who else saved it for successive collections.  We are pleased to offer you this coin to continue its numismatic journey.  Shipped with signature tracking for your added assurance.
