Rare original press publicity photo for LWT  sitcom Me & My Girl starring Richard O'Sullivan and Joanne Ridley.

Made by LWT and running for six series totalling 52 episodes between 1984 and 1988, Me & My Girl was one of those hugely popular disposable middle-of-the-road sitcoms that everyone watched at the time and then quickly moved on from when it finished. It's still odd that Network DVD didn't release this one though as surely it'd have sold a lot better than some of the niche stuff they did put out?! If there was a market for Yus, My Dear then there should have been a much bigger market for this and they did put out most of Richard O'Sullivan's other major series; the Doctor... series, Man About the House, Robin's Nest and Dick Turpin. They didn't even try a series 1 release to test the market as they did with niche 80s sitcoms like Nicholas Lyndhurst and Janet Dibley's The Two of Us. I wonder if there were some unknown rights issues.

Anyway, middle-of-the-road though it may have been it was a fun and charming series which had good support for O'Sullivan with Tim Brooke-Taylor and Joan Sanderson.

O'Sullivan starred as Simon Harrop, a widower trying to bring up his teenage daughter Samantha (played by Joanne Ridley who was 14 when the series started) whilst running his advertising agency Eye-catcher with nervous business partner Derek Yates (Tim Brooke-Taylor) and trying to get back on the dating scene with various interference from his daughter and mother-in-law Nell (Joan Sanderson). There was also a few changing housekeepers plus Eyecatcher's secretary Liz (Joanne Campbell) as regulars.
