Twenty Years A-Growing Maurice O'Sullivan Oxford 1960 World's Classics HC w/DJ
This is a 1960 Oxford University Press hardcover edition of Twenty Years A-Growing by Maurice O’Sullivan, part of The World’s Classics series (#532). Translated from the original Irish by Moya Llewelyn Davies and George Thomson, and featuring an introduction by E. M. Forster, this literary memoir recounts O’Sullivan’s upbringing on the remote Great Blasket Island off Ireland’s Atlantic coast.
The book is in good vintage condition. The dust jacket shows light edge wear and minor fading, particularly along the spine, but remains intact and legible. The blue cloth boards are clean and the binding is firm. There is a name written in ink on the front endpaper. The pages are gently aged, with fold-out maps of the Blasket Islands and surrounding area still crisp and attached.
Highlights:
A wonderful item for collectors of Irish literature, island memoirs, or those interested in disappearing cultural histories. Also a compelling read for ethnographers, cultural historians, and folklore enthusiasts.
